if it is the frame and not body
Get a wire wheel and clean it up and the use some rust prevention paint and paint over it
If it is real bad u may need to use a sander or grinder to get it off then paint over it

Get on it before it gets out of control. I just sold my Silverado because it was getting the cancer. The rocker panels rusted out and I noticed the frame mounts looked bad, too.
It's not cheap, but go get some Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood and apply it to the frame where it's rusty.

Mine wasn't rusty enough to require sanding, but I would have if it was. I swear by my beloved 3M spray can undercoating. Looks great and holds up great here in Michigan.

If it holds up in Michigan then it'll hold up anywhere. Cause you guys got the salt on the road and that's like a deathtrap for cars.

As an aside, and maybe others can testify to this - if you drive on gravel roads where they use Calcium Chloride to keep the dust down, you may be getting severe corrosion and not even know it.
My neighborhood used it 2 Summers ago, and about a year ago, my 2000 Silverado started rusting out. Chevy jokes aside, I hadn't seen rust like that since the 1970's. I can't prove that the CC was the culprit, but it sure is a coincidence.

Chevy jokes? Nobody can joke on chevy. I had a Silverado and I didn't have one single problem with it for the two years we owned it and then my dad got a ranger and within a couple of months it started acting up. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck, I just wish it was built a little better.

They use that here and during the winter they use something like it for the ice on the roads
Neighbor thought I was weird cause every single day I would wash under the truck when I got home from work or what ever
Later on he looked at his dodge and it was terrible
