My 2002 Ranger's power steering is very noisy. With only a slight turn of the steering wheel it sounds awful. It has been this way for a long time. Does anyone else have this noise? What is the problem?

I own a 2002 Ranger Edge xt cab, blue in color with nothing added except a bed liner, guards and tool box.
It has 175,000 miles on it and still runs excellent. It has the 3.0 L engine. I LOVE MY TRUCK!

If it's your typically Ford P/S pump whine their may be little you can do about. Try changing the fluid and see if it helps. Most Ford pumps will buzz/whine until the vehicle goes to the boneyard and yet continue to function normally.

Thanks. The 'whine' has been there since I bought the truck and I didn't know if it was the power steering pump going bad or what. But it has been 'whining' about three years yet works just fine. I suppose I will just live with it. Ford can do better than that... Ford 'makes quality job one.'
