2 starter Solenoids on 93 v4 ranger??
Ok i had some trouble Yesterday starting my 93 ranger. When i would start it, the truck would just click 1 time and nothing would happen. i began trouble shooting the problem, starting at the battery cables and working my way to the Starter solenoid on the driver side fender wall. Where i cleaned all the connections and made sure the cables were still good. I then followed the red power wire to the starter where i found yet another solenoid on top of the starter. Which then i found my problem The same red wire i believe it was a 12-16 gauge power wire for the solenoid on top of the starter had become disconnected somehow. I noticed the wire was plug-n-play and had a small black clip on the end of it. I searched the solenoid for a possible place to plug in and found the male prong for which the red power wire went to. After trying to get to the prong and struggling to hold the wire and get enough leverage to plug it in i finally got it in but it was still loose, but my truck started first try so problem solved for now. I still need to figure out how to get the clip to snap on fully so it doesn't fall off mid ride.
Anyways after looking on the internet (Google) i couldn't find anywhere, where it said a 93 Ranger (or any other car for that fact) had in fact has 2 Starter solenoids??? Are both the Fender wall solenoid and the solenoid on the starter both really solenoids or is there a different name for each. Seeing how the fender wall solenoid isn't connected directly to the starter, is it a starter solenoid? anyways thanks for your time and i hope you guys don't mind helping a self taught mechanic out with his proper terms. I'm really trying to learn as best i can and i love learning new things on my own when i can. It really is a good form of motivation for me. Thanks again - Justin
