Default Epic battle against the CEL! Please help!

Okay, this week has somewhat been stressfull. My check engine light has been on for a while, because of a mass air flow sensor. My truck has also run a little funny. There has been a knock under my driver side floorboard on. I have checked under my truck to see if the driveshaft was hitting something. I checked my tranny fluid. I tried everything I can think of, I just can't seem to figure out wat it is. Monday I went by O'Riellys and got one. It did fine that day. Then on Tuesday the light came back on. I WAS THRILLED! So, yesterday around lunch time, I went back to O'Riellys and swapped the sensor they gave me for a new one, reset my computer, and went on about my day. Then around 9:00 I was coming home from work. I happened to look down again and it was back on!!! This is the 3rd time!!! Count them 1...2..3!!! So, I went by Autozone and it gave me the Mass Air Flow code. So, today I have to go back at 12:00, so a guy that works there can give me someone he knows phone number. Apparentley this guy he knows can run a full diagnostics check on my truck. At this point I am stressed and ready to go outside and strap a bomb to my truck... If anyone has any suggestions I would be more than gratefull to hear them. Thanks.

Yeah. It could have been 02 sensors, but I replaced them in September and when I did the light went off.

The knock makes it feel like it is gonna come unwound. It scares the hell out of me.

if the codes are p0171 and p0174 than you more than likely have a vacuum leak and the most common mis diagnosis for those codes together are MAF and O2 sensors. find out for sure what the codes are and if they are those 2 start looking for a vacuum leak. the knocking sound though im stumped on, not sure if that would be related to your issue or not.

I have no idea either, but it needs attention. How much would a vaccum leak set me back?

well it depends on whats causing it, could be intake gasket which can be pricey to have replaced but it could be a $10 vacuum line that could be causing it so its hard to say. i had the same codes come up with my 01 4.0 and it was a vacuum hose elbow that was cracked and was sucking unmetered air, cost me only a few bucks to fix it.

I have replaced an intake gasket before on my old two door tahoe. It was not only pricey, but it also took a lot of time. I believe it was about 6 hours. I replace it, because my engine coolant kept running out in 20 minutes!

You mean that you couldn't leave the house to go for the diagnostic check?..or you couldn't leave from where you had the check done? How do you know it's the fuel pump? Many diagnostic codes don't tell you the real culprit. Oxygen sensor ones for example can be caused by an exhaust leak, a vacuum leak, an OX sensor and a few other things. The codes are usefull but can lead one to replace things that didn't need replacing ($$$$) Many MAF and OX sensors are replaced when there was nothing wrong with them. The MAF can be carefully cleaned using the right stuff like tuner cleaner. I can't think of it right now but there is an elbow on a vacuum line near the front left of the motor that is prone to cracking..often on the underside where it can't be seen easily. It can be replaced with a piece of flexible rubber tubing as a almost permanent fix. Maybe someone else may recognize what I'm talking about there and can direct you to that thread. Good luck and keep posting until we get it figured out please.

I've cleaned it a many of time and replaced both 02 sensors. My fuel pump went out at my house, before I could leave to get the check done.
