Default 03 ranger issues

i just bought an 03 ranger yesterday. and the whole test drive and way home which is about 20-25 miles there was no issues. i park it last night and get home from work today and start it up to give it a once over and its having a real rough idle that goes away at about 1500rpm but any below that it is rough. it dosent feel like a misfire either. when i start it it is a solid check engine light. then after about 3-4 minutes it starts to blink. if anyone has any experience with this issue help would be greatly appreciated.

Vacume leak??

Take it to your local AutoZone & they will plug in a code reader & tell what's wrong for free.

You might want to check a couple of the harness connectors like the TPS, MAF, etc. just the obvious ones. It is possible that their tech who worked on it did a half donkey job putting it back together after a tune-up and one of the connectors vibrated loose, your discription directly fits the bill for the MAF connector, but it is usually felt across the board, the TPS usually affects everything below a certain point, it is really just a trigger switch to tell the computer when it needs to take over for idling. Unless your truck ate bad mexican food and has bad gas. If all connectors check get ahold of Heet, water remover, ir 6 oz of Iso alcohol and dump it in the tank then drive zig zags for a few seconds and it'll clear itself up usually in about 10 minutes driving, not idle, driving. G/L

It is manual. I'll check all my sensors tonight. And if that turns up nothing I'll bring it down to autozone. I appreciate all the suggestions.

Ford issued a technical bulletin on all '93, 3.0L Rangers. I found it at alldatadiy.com

"Article No. 95-12-6
06/19/95
IDLE - ROUGH - 3.0L VEHICLES - WARM ENGINE AT ALL AMBIENT TEMPERATURES - 1992 4X2 VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION - ALL 1993 VEHICLES
Light Truck: 1992-93 Ranger
All listed vehicles may need engine insulator replacement. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) changes are for listed calibrations only.
CALIBRATION:
3-56F-R00, 3-56H-R00"

The article goes on to list the service procedures, but they're too long for this post.
I haven't needed it so I don't know anything about it. Hope it helps.

My first thought was vacuum leak, too. Although that by itself won't necessarily cause the CEL. Any updates?

Update is that new plugs and wires made the flash go away now it's just a solid cel. I can't clear code to verify problem is gone. I went to autozone and they couldent clear and had my buddy down at VIP autoparts try to clear and he says it won't let him in. There's a block on it he can't even look at the codes. Any suggestions or do I have to go to ford? Thanks for every ones help. Chris

Have you tried unhooking the battery so the computer can reset?

Turn the key to off with alot of things on in the vehicle and remove the key pull both cables from the battery and then replace they key and turn to on position leave it so for 15 minutes. then remove key and leave it over night this will ensure all capacitors are drained and the computer will reset and should clear most all lights. Unless it has triggered a special code that will infact have to be cleared by a tech.

But before you take it in make sure you put water remover in gas and give her a go around 4k rpm's for a few minutes of driving. A-typically you should notice it flucuate in accelleration it'll seeming start to pull and then out of nowhere it'll just choke up and drone. These are direct symptoms a water in the fuel it is denser thn fuel and in lower idles it can block the injectors from getting fuel. The only odd thing is that it came out of nowhere overnight unless someone does'nt like you. I hope this is the issue, uh the water part not the like thing. HTH
