Default A question about Automatic transmission

Hi All,
I have a 2011 Ranger 2.5 XLT, 4x2 (Malaysian Vers.) with auto transmission.
Before, I used to have a.trans. cars and the work principle of the transmissions were all the same. I mean when you shift to 2 the vehicle starts with first gear and then shifts to 2 when you accelerate. Same thing happens in 3 position.
in my Ranger the transmission order is 1-2-3-D-N-R-P
When I shift to 3rd position the vehicle starts to accelerate with the 3rd gear not 1st. Don't you think it should start with 1 then 2 and 3. The same thing happens in 2nd position. It starts with the second gear and keeps going. It does not shift to a lower gear even I press the throttle a lot.
Now I want to learn if the vehicle has problems or 2nd and 3rd gears are only for compression to use in down hills.
Can anyone help me?

Just leave it in drive....

Don't want to see you have to replace your transmission.

Your linkage may be messed up. No idea....don't know about new vehicles...to computerized with wires/sensors everywhere!

That is completely normal for Fords in general. I believe that they do that so that in the snow states, you could put the truck in 2nd gear an dhave less power available so that you may get better traction.

think I understand what your saying?....... if u choose 1 2 or 3 its in the gear you choose. I do not recommend shifting it manually unless u have to...
