Default key fob problrms

What would cause my key fobs to stop working? All have new batteries,2 are brand new,I program one and it works fine, I program my second one and the first quits working. At one time all 3 worked. This morning I went out and my main fob just didn't work.Ihave not done anything to my truck,It was just sitting in the driveway,it wasn't very cold even.(please dont tell me my computer is losing its mind)

Did you program them both at the same time?

Sit in the vehicle with the doors closed with a PATS key that's already programmed for the vehicle and ALL key fob remotes you want to work with the vehicle including new un-programmed key fob remote.
With the doors unlocked, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position eight times in quick succession. When doing this, do Not turn the key far enough to start the engine and don't turn it all the way to the steering column lock position.

Leave the key in the "ON" position on the eighth time.
The door locks will automatically LOCK and UNLOCK indicating the vehicle is now in the Key Remote programming mode.

Finally press the LOCK button on each remote, one at a time.
When you do this, the vehicle will respond with a quick down-up of the door lock buttons for each remote. Remove the key from the ignition and try the remote(s) again to make sure the programming was successful.

Make sure you have ALL remotes that are going to be used with the vehicle with you when you follow the above instructions. It isn't actually the key fob remote that gets programmed. Its the vehicle's computer that is programmed to accept the unique number that is hard coded into every remote. A programming session doesn't ADD remotes to the computers memory, it WIPES OUT the old remote memory and replaces it with just the remotes programmed in this session.

Where did you come across this little tid-bit of info?

LOTS of internet searching.

Plus I just did it a couple days ago...

I found how to program a PATS key too if anyone needs it down the road, only downside is you have to have two already programed PATS keys to do it yourself, if you only have one you have to go to the dealer.

Glad I could help you!

I used the 8 times with the key method below on my 97 Ford Ranger. It worked perfectly except it only took 5 times with the turning the key in the ignition.

If you time the on-off-on-off... right you can stop when the door locks close then open.

Thanks for the help from this forum and whoever posted those instructions.
