Default Driving with the hubs locked.. got Q's

98 ranger with manual locking hubs, can I drive with the hubs locked but not in 4wd? Reason I ask is because I may not need to "drive" in 4wd, but I may need to use 4wd to get out of something when it snows, and instead of getting out, locking hubs, then getting back out and unlocking them can I just drive with them locked until I get home or to where I'm going?

Sorry if this is the wrong section..

You'll get a lil worse gas mileage but I always have done that in my '86 F250.

I am guessing you have AVM or Rugged Ridge hubs?

on your T-bar front suspension 98-99 they had Pulse vacuum hubs from the factory when 4x4 was OFF the hubs unlocked and the T-case motor turned that off.

Now in Mid 2000-2010 they switched to Live axle instead of having a hub you have a threaded stubbed CV axle that has a nut on the outside of the wheel bearing. SO its like always having the "hubs" locked and the shift motor off. if you lock your hubs your running around no different then any ranger or explorer with live axle

Previous owner needed to fix the vac hubs but didn't want to spend $1000 so he converted it to manual.. far as I know they are ford factory off of something.
