Default Charging AC

My AC does not blow cold enough. I have one of those recharge kits from AZ. They say the low oressure side valve is between the compressor and the condenser, My vale in that area is to big for the setup I have, It does fit the HI pressure side. Go figure,.
Whish is the low oressure side ?
Can I get an adaptor ?Bob

Can't even buy or possess R-134/freon unless you are licensed in Wisconsin.

They dont even sell the R134A recharge kits at your local auto store or walmart

I think the recharge kit is only 20 some bucks as apposed to paying maybe 100 dollars for a shop to do it

Nope, and by licensed I meant in automotive HVAC servicing. I believe it is for environmental reasons.

Thanx STL, I did fit the gauge with can of coolant attached to that very valve that you pictured. With AC on max ,the compressor cycles on and goes to the end of the green on the gauge and then it cycles off and drops almost immediatly down to the low end of the green area on the gauge. This just keeps on doing this,. Also find it very difficult to get the gauge on. Like there is no room for more coollant.
So, it seemed to be the hi pressrue side. Also the directions said the low pressure valve would be between the compressor and the condensor which seems to be on the driversw side.
That's why I decided to post my question.
We have the same truck except for year. mine is red also.
I have a fresh can and I will try to get it in, athough it has cooled of here a lot. Thanx, Bob.

Well, I never did get anywhere with my ac and now it is anotherv summer coming.
I went to Ford and had itv checked out.
Results are two leaks found.
One in condenser.
One in air/dryer?. Not sure where this is.
They wanted $$900 to start. I said no. Paid $92 for the check.
Is this seem reasonable. I did not think so . I checked Fords online price for the condenser at $250. I suppose with the labor and dryer etc. it was .
I just wonder if I should do this myself or try to find a independent shop for a better price.
What do y'all think.

To change out the condensor, typically, a lot of under dash work has to be done. That is the only justification I can see for such a high charge.

If you have the time and the inclination, you could probably to the parts change yourself then take it to as place that does A/C work to evacuate the system and charge it for you.

The air dryer is usually some where up front near the compressor. A lot of times it is pretty well buried under/behind other stuff. My Ranger doesn't have A/C, so I can't check on that for you.

The reason Ford wanted so much is they go by the flat rate manual for time and they charge a high price for the parts. I would and have done it myself. Its not hard. The condensor is easy, just pull the radiator. The evaporator is not that hard either. It is located in the heater box in the top picture above(The black plastic housing with the blower motor in it). BTW there is only one bolt inside the cab and its easy to get to. The dryer is the round black thing with the low side a/c fitting on it. After changing the parts the system need vacumned down before you charge it, that requires a vacumn pump. If you decide to do the job I could walk you thru the job.

The parts that the dealership technicians said were leaking are not hard to change. I would also change every o-ring in the system while I have it apart. And there are not too many special tools needed to get the job done, just the AC garter spring release tools, and a set is not that expensive.

In Michigan, maybe nationwide too idk, you have to be licensed to buy any type of refrigerant over a certain poundage or however they measure the stuff.

Here in AZ they sell R134 at Auto Zone, Checker, and NAPA. Pretty much at all auto parts stores. Regarding the repair, it might take you a couple hours, and you might be able to get an AC guy to pull the vacuum on your system and help charge it up for you
