Default Door Lock Won't Work.

I've noticed this a few time last winter that the keys won't unlock the door.

Last week we had our temps in the teen's, and it's doing it again on both door! I was able to open the passenger side after a few minutes. My truck is in the garage over night, it is fine first thing in the morning, but once I head back to my truck at work around noon, I can't turn the keys.

if it still do it this week, i am taking it to the dealer.

Is anyone else having this issues?

Not sure if I have had the same problem, but recently I had to excessively jiggle the key to open the door. I fixed it by spraying some WD-40 in it. Would lubricating the lock help you?

I was thinking of spraying it with something, but I don't want to hurt it now knowing what I should be spraying in there!

WD-40 should be fine. White Lithium spray might work a little better. Just spray it in the key, put the key and turn back and forth repeatedly.

The key for my 03 has been pretty picky lately too. Seems to have started with the cold weather.

There may be some ice forming in your lock while it sits out over night or while you are working. They make little sprays of lock deicer you can spray in the lock.

x2. Sounds like your locking mechanism is freezing up. One quick & easy trick is to use a lighter to heat up the key, then when you put it in it should melt the ice.

Not sure how or why I would have ice since we haven't had rain, and I have not washed the truck in this freezing temps. All of my past cars, I've never had issues with freezing locks.

Any little bit of condensation can get in there and freeze it up. It does not take much.

It's -2˚ out and put the truck in the driveway this morning, and take it to the dealer today.

Yes, took it to the dealer yesterday, and he saw nothing wrong with it. There was maybe enough moisture in there to cause this to freeze up on me. He blasted something in there to dry it out. He said if it acts up again, he said I should use deicer, or little bit of WD40 in it to dry it out.

While he was looking at it, talked to my salesman, and he said "You better get that Ranger Sports!" I went out there and looked at it... Nice!! But the sticker was $28,000! I told him, I'll keep my XL. unless we can do an even trade! He didn't say anything after that. :-)

It sounds like it's icing up. Once you get the lock free, spry some WD-40 in there to repel water but that is only a temporary fix. The expert recommended long term fix is to spray some powdered graphite into the lock at least once a year. I would mix some WD-40 in there with it for it's water displacement properties since I can't see how just powdered graphite will repel water.

Also, check your window seal. is it touching the window or leaving a gap? If there is a gap, there is part or all of your problem. It's allowing water to get into your door and into your lock or latch. That was a big problem for me on a previous vehicle until the window seal was replaced.
