heater issue
I have a weak heating issue in ny 200o ranger. Here are the symtoms...
I have heat but it's weak.
The blend doors sounds like it working
The fan is blowing strong air
Where should I start trouble shooting
I have flushed the system but not the heating core
I did notice the valve ( I guess it's a valve) on the "out" side of the heater core and it is not being activated when I switch over to heat.
Could it be the vacuum is not working?
If so where so I even start to trouble shoot that? I did take it off the hose the swith and felt no suction.
With these detail what shoudl be my next step?
Let me know if you have any question or can provide more detail. Please help it's getting cold lol

Re: heater issue
watch your blend door as you turn the dial.
pull down your glove and use a flashlight.
that will determine your blend door's status.
mine would freak the EFF out. then default to cold...so maybe yours is freakin too?

Re: heater issue
That valve only shuts the water off when you switch to OFF or MAX AC. It is open at all other times.
What is temp gauge on the dash showing? Normal or below normal? Usually its a stuck thermostat in which case the gauge would read low because the coolant isn't warming up.

Re: heater issue
Thanks for replying.
I'll check the blend door and make sure it's doing what it's suposed to.
Do I just drop/take out the glove and should be able to see it? What is, and How hard is the fix if it's not doing what it's suposed to be doing?
I changed the thermostate...twice. So may not be that so much.
Thanks again for repling.
----------
what's the best way to make sure that valve is open?
----------
the temp guage shows normal. maybe on the cool side but nothing that seems abnormal since I owned the truck

Re: heater issue
Yes, if you remove the glove box, it is easily accessible. That valve, you can unplug the vacuum line and ram a screwdriver in the hole. That will push it open if it is jammed.

Re: heater issue
OK...I looked behind the glove and saw, the best I can describe is a turent and it seemed to working as I actuated the the blend door control on the dash.
I put the contril setting on off and the valve also actuated.
Any suggestions?
Much thanks

Re: heater issue
The vacuum line could have a leak. Check around the EGR line in the back and see if it melted the vacuum line. A few have found that before. Looks for cracks too.

Re: heater issue
update
I flushed out the heater core and it seems to be blowing warmer air now.
Well see how well it goes.
Thanks all for the help.

The valve uses vacuum to CLOSE it. There is a spring that default the valve to open. A vacuum problem would cause the valve to not close rather than not open.
