Intermittent starting problem in cold weather
I have a 2002 Ranger XLT V6 4.0 liter that I've been having problems with in cold weather. I live in Wisconsin and the problems all started last winter. Basically, on random cold days I have problems getting it started. I'll turn the key to power everything up, but not turn the engine over. If I don't hear the fuel pump activate I know it won't start. After turning the key off and on again about 5 or 6 times, I'll hear the fuel pump kick and and it will start.
Like I said, it started last winter. Throughout the spring, summer and fall it starts fine. Now that it's cold again it's acting up again. I have it in to the mechanic multiple times, but of course it doesn't act up for them. I don't want to replace the fuel pump if that's not the problem. Last winter I replaced a relay but now I've got the same problem again this winter. Any ideas??
