Default Will disconnecting 4 wheel drive on 98 Ford Ranger save gas?

I have a 98 Ford Ranger and never use the 4 wheel drive. If I disconnect it, will it help on gas mileage at all? It sucks it down right now.

maybe slightly, very very, slightly, IIRC that truck has vacuum hubs, the front CV joints are always spinning but don't make a mechanical connection with the front wheels until the hubs are locked by vacuum. The amount of fuel saved by disconnecting the CV joints would very small maybe 0.3 MPG. It's not worth doing.

disengaging it will not get you better mileage. its also a bad idea if you ever want to use it its not there, and it can cause problems if you wanted to make it so you had 4x4 later down the road. buy a 4x2 or a car.
