Default Re: Looking for 1994 Ranger Fuel Tank - Any ideas?

Got the problem fixed. The filler neck had cracked at the tank inlet. After removing the the filler fitting on the bed, I lifted the bed off the fram (6 torx 56 size screws). Didn't really need to detach the lights at all. The front screws are longer. You could pull the front screws and the rear screws. Replace the rear with the fronts by just a few turns, and un-do the middle screws. That way you could lift the front of the bed but keep it aligned with the frame. Lift it high enough so you can under the bed and undo the hose clamp on the filler neck. Ford wanted $485 for the filler neck, but I found it for $125 but carparts.com has it for less. Try to find a way to mark the position of the old one prior to removal so you don't run into a problem with aligning the external inlet fitting with the body when dropping the bed back into place.

Hey I've got a problem with my gas tank too, I filled it up last night, and as I reached full it started leaking. Could this be the filler neck or more than likely a hole?

Yup, a VERY common problem. Most likely your fuel neck has cracks in rubber. Gas leaks out when filling or full. No leak when fuel level is lower.

Man that stinks. Are the replacements still 200-500? I think I'd rather rig something up before I have that kind of money laying around...

Nvm on my last question. Think I just found one on Amazon for 22 plus 11 shipped

Ok, pretty sure its not just the filler neck. Got in it this morning to go to work and had around 3/4 tank.

You might want to remove your filler neck to inspect it. Esp. before you go buy a tank.

Thumbs up Re: Looking for 1994 Ranger Fuel Tank - Any ideas?

I found a place in Iowa that makes replacement tanks for almost any truck (even the older Rangers). You can see what they have at http://www.mtscompany.com/ford.htm.

I'll be replacing mine soon.

UPDATE - It seems that they only have tanks for the full size trucks

It is awful funny you guys can't find replacement tanks I Googled it and found several pages of replacement tanks both metal and plastic. Thank me for doing your leg work for you. That is what searches are for. Another newbie that wants everybody to do his research for him and once he gets the info he wants won't hear from him again until he needs somebody to do more research for him. SEARCH
