Gas gauge not working properly

I just got a '08 a couple days ago.

I went out to put gas for the first time, the gauge needle was close to the E. I put under 10 gallons and it was already full. I thought maybe it was the pump so I went to another. It seemed to be full, I could not get anymore gas in there. Once it was full the gauge only shows right above 1/2 a tank.

I've been searching to find out how to fix this but cannot find a good answer... This seems to be a common problem on all rangers, but there's got to be a fix. How do I fix this? If there a float problem? How do I make sure it's the float (or something else)?
