Default Check Fuel Cap Light

My check fuel cap light came on. I twisted the cap and disconnected the battery to reset. After a couple of days the light came on again. I decided I better just get a new cap. But before I got the new cap the Check Engine Light came on. Are the two connected? Is the check engine light on because of the check fuel cap light? I guess I can go to Autozone tomorrow and get a reading but the a-holes over there don't want to have to walk outside to help a customer and that is why I do almost all my trading with NAPA. Thanks

I don't have a check fuel cap light but I've left the fuel cap loose once or twice and the check engine light will come on just disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and it will reset the computer but you will have to have to reset your clock and your radio preset stations.

If the truck seems to run fine, disconnect the battery as previously mentioned and then see if it comes back. Could be related. If it comes back, take it in to another Auto Zone than the one you have problems with. Or wait til their quiet hours, and then if they give you crap, ask for a manager. If he gives you crap, don't go back there.

I would speculate that the two are related in that whatever senses pressure in the tank attributes a certain rate of pressure build up to the gas cap being messed up and a higher rate or more consistent rate of build up to an evaporative emission problem like a saturated carbon can or blocked gas tank vent.
Or maybe you got a certain amount of time to fix the gas cap problem before the computer decides to escalate the severity.
Either way, the cap light is basically telling you that something is allowing expansion to build up pressure in your tank.

I put on a new fuel cap, disconnected the battery and reconnected. Both lights are off now but I am hoping they stay off. Hope it is not a Canister Vent Solenoid or something in that whole system. But if the light comes back on I will have to get a reading and see what the read out code is and then tackle that problem. Thanks to all for your help.
