Default ABS Light with dead Speedometer - fix

My Dad's '99 ranger 2wd had an ABS light on and the speedometer was on zero at any speed. The shifts were also very harsh on the automatic. I replaced the speed sensor on the differential, $14 at Autozone, and everything is normal again. I owe this forum as I got the idea that the speed sensor could be the problem by searching the archives. Thanks.

Note that this info is correct for 98~2000 Rangers. Other years do not use the rear axle sensor to drive the speedometer.

Default Re: ABS Light with dead Speedometer - fix

my 98 4wd 3.0 has same problem, abs light on, speedometer at zero, and odometer not working.

changed the speedo in the rear unplugged the battery, along with making sure the connectors were all clean, and did not change at all.

if anyone has any info regarding the problem let me know

thanks
