Pulling power erases the code not the condition. Your engine does self tests routines and if frequent or consistent occurrences of a fault are detected within x amount of drive cycles, you get the light. When it's fixed you can opt to erase the code or allow the self tests to verify no fault and turn itself off.

Hmmm... maybe that EGR valve idea wasn't such a shot into space!?
Could also be PCV valve stuck and allowing fuel vapor to thin the oil enough to be consumed.

How long since your last oil change? You don't have to answer out loud. Just ask yourself.

I bet is a bad oxygen sensor, or you need to click the gas tank cap a few more clicks.

Thoughts.

You have a condition that allowed for the consumption of a quart and a half of oil. So, engine light, no engine light... what does that matter?
When your engine oil was low, it was highly acidic and concentrated with dissolved solids so aside from the other more obvious effect that oil in that condition has, it put some really nasty vapors into the EGR system via the PCV valve. So after that mess got recycled to the intake, perhaps the o2 sensors got a whiff of it. Or it fouled the DPFE sensor.
Guessing. All Guessing.

You don't want that kind of condition going on inside any engine, and you've got a high mileage engine.

At least do an oil/filter change and keep up with that.

Yes an oil change is coming very soon. Considering the oil I bought was from a grocery store. It was an emergency lol

How do you turn the check engine light off? Mine has been on for a long time, I think it came on first because of some watery gas and is still on. Tuck has been running fine for a long time since.

If you don't have a code reader or one availble to borrow, you can diconnect the battery for a few minutes. That will clear the codes.

Since it's been on for some time, it might be something other than bad gas. See if you can get an auto parts store to read the codes (some do it for free). and bring them back here for evaluation.

I never can get that S.O.B. to stay off. Doesn't matter what vehicle I get. I'll fix one thing and it just comes right back on for something else. Last time it only stayed off for 1 day!

Yeah it can seem like that but keep at it like a hobby. probably multiple failure to begin with, but when a given sensors output is determined to be out of range, the computer can delay certain test routines (monitors) that that sensor is part of. Then when you straighten out that condition the computer sees that sensors output again and starts up that particular monitor. That's when another problem that had been ongoing can be detected. Giving the impression that you fix one thing and another thing breaks.
