This is my parents truck and they live 2000 miles away. They have a 2001 Ranger V-6 auto with less than 16,000 miles (they bought new, don't drive much) had the fuel filter changed at a Ford Dealership and now it is hard to start in the morning. It is as if the fuel line is emptying back into the tank. Crank, crank, crank, then starts up and runs fine. there are no fuel leaks obvious or drips under truck. Any ideas.. Thanks for any help..ss

Mine did the same thing after I changed the fuel filter. I know mine was installed right because one side had two line and the other side only had one, so there was only one way to install it.

Another would be a bad regulator in the fuel pump itself. Try key on w/o crank 3-4 times b4 start and then start. If that works id say bad pressure reg. In the tank

Thanks for the feedback.. I think the filter has 1 in and 2 out so unless they got those mixed up. Dad took it to the Ford garage and they tested the FI System and decided it needed a new battery!! Parents should always live close to their children. Thanks for all the comments

i have a question, after replacing the fuel filter on my 85 2.8 v6 ford ranger, there isnt isnt any fuel thats coming up to the carb, and i pump the accelarator and i cant see or hear the fuel, do you think i have to replace the accelator pump or what could be the problem

Since you replaced the filter have you tried to start the truck? If you have then maybe your mechanical fuel pump is bad.
