Default I think my ECU reset while driving

Today I was coming home from work, had the music very loud so I obviously didn't hear anything. I was in second gear accelerating and I felt a jump. My head unit turned off then immediately back on and everything seemed to be okay. Has anyone had this happen? What would cause this?

That has nothing to do with the ECU. The ECU does not control electrical power to accessories or major engine components. Something somewhere is loose. Most likely in the neighborhood of the ignition cylinder and associated wiring, or in the fuse box under the hood.

In theory, the battery cable coming loose shouldn't effect it with the alternator running. The alternator and battery are in parallel and nothing should shut down when the battery is disconnected as long as the alternator is generating power. This is why I suggest checking the fuse box and ignition cylinder. Those are both single points of failure.

I've got off next week and will look into it more. I've been driving my car anyway. Like I said it only happened one time, but that was 1/2 mile from home. Thanks for the tips guys.

Look up Body Control Module. See if that sounds like something that will get you going.

when a battery cable comes off, the engine will shut off immediately. i have had this happen to me on more than one type of vehicle. (my ranger, 1985 dodge dippy, and a 1977 buick). i know what your thinking and it doesnt make complete sense in theory but it happends. many tractors will run without a battery because of the way their wired up. however all cars/trucks that ive ever driven will not run without some kind of 12v battery hooked up.

however it is a good idea to check the fuse box especially the main fuses, and check your coil pack.

I've pulled mine off and it stays running just fine. It is by no means a good idea, but it's odd that it would shut off for you.

I don't think the coil pack would make the radio reset. I am leaning towards the battery connections, or possibly main fuses. Like I said, the truck lost all power, including the engine for a split second, the truck then started driving normal again and the radio as well.

I had this happen when I had my focus, driving with my friend and radio reset, lights flashed, felt a jump. Took it to the dealer and they said the battery was no good, replaced it for me (thank you warranty!) and no issues after that.
