Default a/c cooling problem

I have a 96 ford range xlt 3 liter. The A/c unit is charged with 70 PSI static. The Blend door has been repaired, new door. When placed in Max A/C the compressor will only occasionally comes on for just seconds. I suspect a sensor but am unable to find a manual online for the A/C components. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks fred

Fred,

I have just acquired a 99 Ranger. I was told the AC works fine in all modes but Max A/C. If you turn the knob to Max A/C, it will stop cooling and start blowing air out the defrost vents.

1. Does YOUR A/C work correct in all settings but Max A/C?
2. Does your A/C change output vents just by switching to Max A/C?

Thanks,
Tomz

No my a/c does not work in any mode. I posted that it did not work in MAX air but it does not work in any other mode as well.

It could be a faulty pressure switch, when my AC bit the dust, my uncle just jumpered the pressure switch and the compressor kicked right on, there is one plugged into the accumulator and i believe there is one near the compressor. it's a cheap part so, hopefully that helps ya out
