Hi all,

Developed a leak in the hard line that runs down the driver side of the truck. The line runs between the gas tank and the chassis rail, and I can't figure out the best way to get at it. Does the gas tank need to be dropped? Or should the line be disconnected at both ends and slid through the small space? Trying to fix a buddy's 4cl. manual Ranger, don't have experience working on them. Thanks in advance for any tips,

you can slid a new line in, when I did mine I replaced most of the line, working on the rusted old line is a pain for a few buck more you can replace the whole line

I pulled the tank when I had the same thing on my 94. I ended up creating more trouble.
The fuel lines at the top of the tank were in the same shape and started to leak.
Of course I did not realize this until it was back together. the second time I pulled the tank, the filler hose ($80) got a hole and the return line Oring shifted. I fixed that the third time.
I would have pulled the bed but there was 1300# of steel in it(I did not know that it weighed that much till I was on the scales).

Sorry to resurrect... but I am having the same issue in the same place. I have a 1989 Ford Ranger extended cab and my brake line is leaking in the same place. Brake fluid was leaking from around the gas tank skid plate so I removed that. I can still not get access to the line so I am going to take the bed off (have to replace it anyways).

1. Will I be able to access the brake line with the tank in place if I remove the bed?
2. Do I need to buy a brake line to replace mine with, or do I buy parts and make a new brake line?
3. If I need to make my own line, what tools and parts will I need?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I finally have the transmission done so I can drive the truck. Being able to stop it would be good too.
