I notice a few things wrong with this .... since the headlight area is already set up for air induction into the airbox, would you not still get that same outside airflow? The only thing a CAI would do is change the radius in which you take in air and increases the amount able to be taken in, compared to a standard filter.

I could understand a stationary vehicle being inhibited by the heat radiated from the engine, but a vehicle in motion with high winds being forced through the engine bay and other components, would reduce the temps inside the bay would it not? Think of it like wind to flame, the heat/flame is pushed away by the wind and so you have the cooler outside air taking up the space of the hot air.

CAI's are GREAT for higher end torque because you can take in much more air with them at higher speed (+45) without a box hole restricting the air flow. The bay around the CAI DOES stay cool because of the outside air being pushed in. If you took a thermometer and placed it in front of the CAI / Airbox you would get the EXACT same air temperature readings. Plus metal tubes get hotter than rubber ones anyways, hence why I went with a 4.0l intake on my 3.0l.

ALSO Dynos really can't measure CAI's without a fan that can reach the same winds speeds as driving 70+mph. This is why you have discrepancies with Rangers when you compare Airbox vs. CAI.

CAIs are still worthless...wish i saw this thread before i dropped 300 on mine for the ranger...they do absolutly nothing...a drop in K&N and removing the silencer is a lot better and cheaper alternative

cold air intake systems that have larger filters will do nothing. seeing that the air filter is the most oversized filter on a vehicle already. having an even bigger filter will do nothing. you aren't going to pull more air thru it unless your engine has more suction. ie... larger displacement or forced air induction, blower or turbo.

Agreed... unless you go through a lot of dust, sand and dirt.
I got stuck changing/cleaning my drop in filter monthly and lost mpg
K&N kit saves me time and fuel I don't care what anyone says get the mods you need for where and how you drive.
