Default Lost Brakes

1994 4WD XLT. Scary. I noticed my right front brake hanging up, so I stopped and checked it out and the wheel was very hot. I gave it some time to cool down and I noticed that if I just jabbed the brake peddle a little while driving, it would release the pad. Then, boom, no front brakes at all. I have rear brakes. Pretty scary. I nursed the truck back home and am thinking. Porportioning valve in the master cylinder? ABS light is on as well.

how is your fluid level? if its low it will make your light come on. as far as the front brakes it sounds like its time to pull the calipers off and grease the slide pins and possibly replace a bad caliper or two. does the truck pull hard to one side at all when you brake?

Fluid was fine. Did pull to the right. Greasing the slide pins never occured to me and it makes great sense. Thanks. Will let you know if that is the fix.
Thanks much

Not sure if you are in the rust belt there or not. If not, you should grease the pins at least once a year to prevent rust and binding, twice a year if you get the pleasure of driving in snow.

Pulled wheel off and caliper was totally "Cooked". Fluid was ok. Caliper slides were not frozen but well lubed. This is a 1994, so it only has Rear ABS, so I don't think the ABS has anything to do with the front brakes. I will replace the master cylinder and both calipers and pads. I am up on purging the master cylinder before installing. Will get new rotors and bearings and grease it all up. Rear dust seals too. Brake lines looked ok, no cracks or bubbling on the rubber hose.
Better replace them as well.
What do ya think?
