Default 2000 Ford Ranger ... comparable years?

I'll start right off by saying ..at my age...I have had a bunch of, and done a lot of work on many Ford...and non Ford trucks and suv's. With that said, my son had a minor accident (trying to avoid bambi ). The officer on the scene (a newbie) incorrectly documented it as a totaled vehicle. its just too much trouble to challenge this, and my state makes you jump through too many hoops to make it acceptable to the DMV..ditto for the insurance cos. in this state. So...I see this as a great parts donor for a another Ranger. Outside of a duplicate vehicle, what years of Ranger could make best use of the drivetrain, body..int/ext, and anything else from this "so called" totaled vehicle. Don't want to merge 1 out of 2 Rangers...just to keep it as a close parts donor. Info follows..thanks for any help. 2000 Ford Ranger, ext cab, stepside, black/gray int, 3.0v6, auto, 4x4.

A 2000 Ranger is only worth $1000-$2000 at the most so any type of crash will render it a total loss by the insurance companies.
Incorrectly calling the crash totaled......doubtful, not based on whether it can be repaired or not but cost of repair vs vehicle's actual value.
The 1998-2011 years share most of the same chassis parts.
I don't know how salvaged titles go, I never needed to know.

MOST directly compatible with 1998-2000 Rangers, and 2001-2008 Mazda B-series trucks (which, as you know, are just Rangers with different grilles and tailgates...), i.e. these are the ones with the funky Torsion Bar front suspension and Pulse Vacuum Hub (PVH) 4WD mechanism...

... all other parts of the engine, drivetrain, and suspension (and body parts) are compatible with a much larger range of model years.
