Hello my name is MArcos and happy to be a part of this Forum. I own several Ford Rangers and one of them im having an issue I cant seem to figure out.
I have a 1991 Ford Ranger extended cab 4x4 with 4.0 liter engine. Recently my truck started making a weird humming noise between 30mph and 50mph. Cant really tell where its coming from, its not real loud but its definitely making a noise. I assumed it was my wheel bearings so I went ahead and replace them along with new brakes and rotors. Still making the noise, noticed some play in my u-joints so I replaced all 6 of them. Still making the noise. Doesn't make the noise when parked or idling. I hear the noise while in gear or in neutral, with gas pedal pressed or coasting. Not sure what else to check? Rear Diff maybe? ring and pinion? torque converter? front axle u-joints? Any help would be greatly appreciated?
checked my carrier bearing when the drive shaft was off and seemed to be ok. Im gonna try rotating my tires this weekend and see if that makes any diffeence
I’ve got the exact same problem on a 1996 2.3 2wd ranger, except, not all the time, but randomly, and haven’t figured it out.
Thinking either rear diff, or tranny.
Check your rear wheel bearings and differential fluid also check pinion bearing.
no rear wheel bearings on this truck that im aware of. Gonna check the fluid this weekend. pinon bearing is the only other thing that I can think of although I would think it would make the noise all the time if it was the bearing?
