Default Changed rotors/pads, Steering and car wobble.

About 15k miles ago - I changed the rotors, wheel bearings, and pads on the front brakes of my 2011 2WD Reg Cab 5-speed 2.3l Ranger. It had a bit of a wobble when braking from 30-40MPH (or 40-30 technically). The truck would actually wobble and hop a bit. Since then I got new tires and this brake replacement.

Problem went away.

Fast forward to today, 15k miles later, and it came back. This time it seems to be a little worse. Once I hit the brakes and the speed drops to 40 MPH the truck bounces quite a bit. I can see the wobble in the steering wheel as well. It slowly goes away but I can faintly feel it until a complete stop, just much much slower (as if it is rotating slower... rotors?). Replaced with OEM, new tires have been balanced, dont feel it in the pedal at all.

Could it be the rotors again? Could it be the rears? Pretty annoying at this point as it is pretty aggressive bouncing.

Ideas? Controls arms? Dry Caliper pins?

I would say it's the rotors from whet you've posted.
If the wheel lugs are not torqued to 100 psi and in the proper pattern that will happen.

Ya I kept coming back to them being the culprit as well.

Could it be the rear ones? The seats wobble during this deceleration as well.

Most of the braking is done by the fronts, that is what you will usually feel. Please be aware that what most people think is warped rotors is usually not. It take a metric shit ton of heat to warp a rotor. What it usually is caused by is uneven pad material transfer to the rotors. Gives the same feel. Pulsing in the pedal, vibration. Turning the rotors will fix it. Cheaper than replacement. If this is the cause, you may want to consider using a different pad.

Any recommendations for pads? Just replaced front rotors with OEM. I would rather replace the pads than the rotors, not that either are all that difficult.

Wobble is a side to side motion.

I used EBC's Green Stuff 7000 pads and have been very happy with them.

It also helps if the pads are properly bed-in as well. Most don't take the time to do so, or don't have the proper space to.

If you suspect it is the rotor, you can use a dial indicator and check runout.

If you replaced the rotors, make sure that the wheel bearing endplay is correct. A loose bearing will cause the same wandering issue under braking.

My '03 had the bouncing problem during hard braking, almost would bounce off the road sometimes.

Turn out for me to be two things, shocks and the ABS wasn't working correctly !

Have you had the ABS System checked ?

Just thinking out loud ! Funny that the problem only comes around after 15K miles. Get the ABS checked at least.

What was the problem with the ABS? I replaced the shocks in 2018 - about 10k miles ago, along with upper/lower ball joints.

I am going to dive into this soon, regrease the caliper guide pins first. then maybe get new pads and have the rotors turned nearby.
