Default Truck sluggish after spark plug change?

1992 Ford Ranger 2wd 4.0 v6

My truck is very sluggish, almost stalling out and dying. The problem is the worst trying go uphill, but it still happens while on level ground and going down hill if I was step on the gas pedal.

The engine is also getting very hot and quick after driving it. Not over heated but seems pretty close to being. I took my intake hose off make sure nothing was stuck in the manifold, I had white smoke or steam coming from it after I drove it.

***This all happened after I changed my spark plugs, I have double checked the gaps even put the old plugs back in, all my spark plug boots are good and tight in the right order. The new ones had a very thin layer of black dust on them when I took them out.

I have checked for head gasket problems with a combustion leak tester (Was None). There are no vacuum leaks and the air filter is installed the right way and clean. I haven’t cleaned the mass air flow sensor yet, but I wouldn’t think that would cause such problem like this. Plan do a compression test later after work.

I would like to get few opinions of what could be going on in case the compression test turns out good.

Edit: there is loud sound under the hood as if there was spark plug missing but they are tight and not loose.

Sounds like you may have a plugged exhaust or a stuck heat riser if equipped. The cat is what usually plugs up.

Thanks that’ll be next thing in I look in to it, also did compression test today the results are below. I’m unsure what they mean about my engine. I feel the numbers little high, but at least they are in same range as each other.

Unit of measurement: psi
1:180
2:180
3:185
4:180
5:180
6:170 2nd try 175 psi

compressions good.. check MAF, Fuel pressure! Where was white smoke coming from? is it throwing codes? leave fuel cap off while you drive n see if that helps

I couldn't find a ground on the MAF pin but I checked the single wire with voltage meter, It was 1v and went up slowly as I accelerated and went back to normal when I stopped.

I haven't checked for exhaust/catalytic clog yet, my o2 sensor is rusted on in a very nice tight spot... Going have to drill a hole and tap it before the catalytic so I can test it with pressure gauge...unless there another way to test for this problem.
