Default Tire mount removal

Hey everyone so I’ve been adding a bit of extra weight to my 2000 ford ranger such as metal bumpers and what not. So I’m wanting to remove something that I have no use for and that is the entire spare tire holder I have that’s under the truck bed. When I went down there to see if I could remove it, I noticed it isnt really bolted in, more like pressed in. So does that mean I NEED it in order to avoid my entire frame to collapse under extra load? Or can I just grind those press nuts off and drive it without the tire mount?

I hope you aren't riding around without a spare tire. If you do have a spare, I hope it's mounted securely.

Use your brain amigo, it's a spare tire mount and also a cross member.
Carrying a unsecured spare tire in the bed is dangerous and stupid regardless of whether you asked the question or not.

Being 98+, it's riveted in and the charcoal canister mounts to it. It also acts as a rear frame cross member.

In short it is an integral part of your frame's structure.

Your profile picture shows a VERY mild truck.....unless you replace the spare carrier with a new structural piece for the canister to mount to, I don't know what exactly you're attempting to accomplish....

He wants to remove weight so he can add metal bumpers and other undisclosed items without making the truck heavier.
Maybe he is trying to keep the weight down so he can race in the Camping World Truck Series.
