Default Front Parking Brake Cable Anchor Pin

A few days ago my front parking brake cable snapped off. The repair seemed somewhat simple with a $20 replacement cable from Autozone. However, I couldn't figure out how to get the "anchor pin?" at the end of the cable off the assembly. I even found a guide for this procedure as well but still no luck:

I could probably bend part of the assembly and get the pin/cable out then put the new one in and bend it back but I would want to avoid doing this if possible. I would be thankful for any help!

I took some pictures of the assembly too:

Edit: My particular truck is a 2003 Ranger but my guess is that the same type of assembly can be found on most if not all Rangers and Explorers.

you need to rotate the cable and there is a slot, it will fall out out when you get it right

Thanks. I ended up just pushing the inside gear wheel all the way back (red circle) and blocked it from retracting with whatever you find lying around (green rectangle). This allowed me to easily take the anchor pin out and put the new one in from the back side of the assembly. You could also do this by grabbing the old brake cable with a big piece of pliers and pulling on it hard until the gear wheel retracts all the way back. Doing it that way might require another person to get the anchor pin out though. Here is a picture I took: https://imgur.com/a/zJSF0ti

Not sure if this is the right way to do it or if there are better ways of doing it but it worked for me.
