Question Accidental reverse while in drive

well I was driving my truck home, and the check gauge light came on,
So what I usually do when that happens is ,I put the truck into neutral and turn it off then back on. Then the check gauge light usually turns off.

But,this time I accidentally put it in reverse and,the truck jerked, and then I put it back into neutral, then drive. The truck seems to be okay it drives fine and reverses fine. I’ve done the same thing on a 97 f150 but it didn’t jerk, it just felt like it was in neutral. So my question is,why did it jerk? It felt Like slack from the driveshaft. I don’t think It damaged my transmission. One more thing,is there any other way to turn the truck off and back on while driving without it being in neutral.

My truck has 180,000 miles on it

I’m pretty sure ford has like a safety for this

I just want you guys input on this

So why does the check engine light keep coming on in the first place?

Shutting the truck off while driving to make a warning light go away is pretty much the definition of insanity. Maybe just fix the problem the light is trying to alert you to?

Sorry. I meant the low fuel light, not the check engine light.

Pull the error codes and go from there.

I don't understand why shutting the engine off and starting it right back up will turn the low fuel light off...?

I read that correct didn't I? OP said "check gauge" which means low fuel.
