Default Impact Sensor Location

Hello all,

A few days ago I slipped on some ice and ran into a guard rail. Both airbags deployed and I am in the process of rebuilding the car. I know I have to replace the following: both bags, the RCM, and the seat belt pretensioners.

My main question is about the Impact sensors on the front of the vehicle. Every diagram I pull up shows that my truck (2003 3.0L V6, 2WD) is equipped with two of them, but I cannot find them for the life of me.
I know some of the models only had the one that was built into the RCM but these diagrams and every dealership I've called to run my VIN says my vehicle is equipped with them. Basically I am super confused because I can't imagine how 2 sensors meant to trigger in a collision could be that hidden.

Any help on locating them or idea if these diagrams could be wrong would be very helpful.

When I fixed my Escort, they were almost inside the front bumper. Had to take it off and they were 2 black plastic cubes about 2 inches wide with a little steel bracket and a couple wires coming out. They were pretty well hidden there. I know it's not much but hope this helps...

on a 2003 the sensors are integrated into the RCM. No external sensors

16 year old high mileage Ranger with major crash damage and you actually want to replace the airbags and repair the truck? That will be quite a project....post pictures of the damage.
Once you price out the airbags, you might change your mind.

I would not be repairing the truck but I found a donor truck on craigslist with a blown transmission that the owner only wants $450 for everything I need.
