Default Oil and Type A/C Compressor 1992 Ranger

1992 Ford Ranger 2wd Automatic 4.0L V6

I'm in the process of replacing the A/C system in my truck. Everything has been replaced, but the Compressor. It seems to be in working condition still. But when I drained the oil from it little to nothing came out of it, and there is no part number on it. The only thing I could find was 231-2. It should be the original Compressor that came with the truck.

So I need help finding how much I need to how oil is needed and the type. Since I can't find a owners book and my trusty Hayness repair book says nothing. I have been looking into it and it seems Ester Oil would be a good thing to use since it was a R12 system now R134.

Give me a minute to finish this cigarette and I'll go check my manual inside and see what it says

So I have the factory service manual for a 92 Ford Ranger. It's very exhaustive, but there is no info you want at all in it. I did find this, but that's all there is. This is simply a step in the removal of other engine items. There is no other info except obviously how to reinstall it. I've checked the entire book, I'm sorry I can't help you, but at least you have a part number now.

Has it previously been converted to R134 or are you just doing that now?

Everything has just been replaced but the Compressor. Also do you just add the oil straight in to it through the holes of it?

I understand that it's been replaced, I'm just wondering what was run in the compressor before.

You even replaced the evaporator?

The system was running off R12. Just now trying be converted to R134a

Also my cousin found this for me. http://www.techchoiceparts.com/refri...rd-light-truck
But still need know how to add it. I tried adding it straight to the compressor and tuning it, but it just pushes out the other hole.
I don't really see how the compressor uses oil if it pushes it all out. Dose it just get pushed around the system till it gets back to the compressor?

You don't need to convert to 134A, use the direct repalcement R12A.

R12A isn't a direct drop in replacement, it's just marketed that way. No reputable shop will deal with your system if it's in there, and whether it's legal to use in the US at all is murky.

Most forum users just want to go the cheapest route, so I put it out there.
