Default 88' Ranger 2.3 Fuel and Running issues

So, I bought my 88' Ranger for $200 it was sitting for 5 years. I have been trying to get it running for some time now my issue seemed to be a fuel issue. It would start up perfectly fine and then run for a while and shut off and would not start up. I replaced the fuel filter, still nothing. I then took the bed off and dropped the tank to find about 2lb of rust particles in the tank and the fuel pump looked like it sat in the bottom of the ocean. I got a new tank and pump and installed it and still the same thing. When I turn the key i can hear the pump kick on and there is fuel in the fuel lines. There is a reservoir type thing after the fuel pump I dont know if that could be the issue and there is also what looks to be another fuel pump after, I am kinda at a loss as of now.

It does have two pumps, low pressure one in the tank, high pressure under your feet, and sometimes that canister you mention, does have a filter in it.

Do you think that this may be a problem? Just my friend had a similar problem and decided everything only after a complete replacement of the entire fuel system !?

Screw the bowl off that canister and check for a filter, if it has one and its gunked up, new ones can be bought, but some say a filter in there is not needed.
