Re: Brake Proportioning valve... do I really need it?
I know this is slightly old but removing the proportioning valve is a very bad idea and possibly against the law. The front brakes deliver more stopping power than the rear. Especially if you have drum brakes in the rear. The proportioning valve sends more pressure to the front than the rear. If you remove it you will get equal pressure to front and rear and your stopping power will be greatly reduced. You may even lock up the rears every time you hit the brakes. I wouldn't trust any mechanic that would suggest bypassing it. These things hardly even go bad so I would look for a second opinion.
