Default AC recharge problem

Hey guys, new to the forum.

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger.

My AC has been blowing out warm air so I thought it needed to be recharged.

So I get the hose and some R134a freon.

I follow all the directions. Truck is on, AC on cold and full blast and hooked the cans to the hose right.

Problem is my truck wont take any of the Freon.

The pin inside the port is fine. Someone told me to take a small screw driver and see if air comes out to test it ( kinda like a tire gauge ). It did.

I want to think its the hose. But I am no mechanic.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

Thanks.

^^^Agreed. You should be able to see it engage and start to spin on the front of the compressor, periodically. Spend and extra $5 and get the r134a can with the cheap gauge. This will let you know if your system is at the correct pressure. Let us know if the clutch is engaging.

I finally got to go in.

There was actually two problems.

The ac clutch was not disengaging and the hose wasnt all the way loosened.

But she is running great now.

Thanks for the responses.
