Default 83 Ranger engine and trans upgrade

I have an 83 Ranger and the body and Chassis are in excellent condition. The 2.3l engine and transmission on the other hand are worn out. I have access to a 2001 Ford Ranger with a good 3.0 l and transmission. Do any of you know if the 3.0 liter in transmission will mount into an 83 Ranger chassis?

I'm quite sure you will need to fabricate adapters to mount the motor but I think that would be the easy part. Wiring the electronic engine controls & pcm would be the time consuming part.

I'm curious how you getting along with your intended swap? If you haven't already done one yet, I would seriously consider an alternative. I was thinking that if I had this generation Ranger with perfect body and Chassis, that I would seriously consider a diesel swap. Most likely a 4bt, or some other diesel Driveline and transmission. It would be about the same amount of work and Fabrication to install a diesel as it would that 4.0 engine trans combo you considered.

He still only has one post so I assume he figured out that the swap would be a clusterfock.
