Default rear brakes adjuster kits...

I just did my rear brakes, for the most part I had to replace the adjuster kits because they come apart. Any hints or tricks to making them stay together ? 03 XLT 4x4 10 inch drums...The truck is really clean rust free.

The only thing I can recommend is to NOT buy your adjuster kits at AutoZone. They are made of soft steel and wear out in less than a year. Your best bet (though expensive) would be OEM from the Stealership.

I just put in Wearever kits. Can anyone tell me what exactly should allow them to adjust? Is it backing up, or cycling the ebrake?

By the way, it took quite a while and some bad words to get the first side back together. I did much better on the second side.

One issue i had with the adjuster kit was that the slots on the adjuster were too narrow for the brake shoe. In had to open them up with a file by .030 in.

I have seen where the coating they put on the shoes is too thick, causing that problem... but never to the point of need a file!

They adjust when you brake while backing up. Adjust the star wheel until you can just slide the drum on. If your adjusters are working they will tighten a bit with use. If they become looser with time something is wrong with the adjuster.
