Default 1987 dies and won't turn on

Long story short I have a 1987 2.3L that dies when I'm driving it at random. It also sometimes dies after it's been sitting out in the parking lot while I'm at work. When I turn the key the engine does turn over , but never turns on. However when I get a jump it turns on just fine. It's not battery or alternator. I'm starting by installing a new ignition module , and if the problem persists I'll move onto the fuel pump. Any other recommendations ? Something else that could be wrong or somewhere else I should look at ? Thanks in advance

To be clearer , it'll die while driving so I'll pull over while it rolls and then I crank it and it turns over but not on. So I have to wait maybe 2-3 minutes sitting there with my hazards on until It finally turns on. When it dies at a parking lot after it's been sitting, that's when I need a jump

Sounds like it could be a fuel pump

I doubt it being the fuel pump because normally they work or they do not. I would check all my grounds and also the battery terminals

I've had a fuel pump do that in the past, correct they typically work or don't. But they can get hot and shut down, you wait a few min and it fires up.

Sorry gzus, how many miles do you have on it? And what year is it? If your anything like me you want to find the problem and not replace 5 parts to find out what's wrong. If you have a lot of miles and its the original fuel pump, might not be a bad idea to replace it. Like the other guy said a bad ground could be a problem as well. I know on these older trucks a multi meter is your best friend. Good lUK and keep us updated

I believe the 87 has 2 fuel pumps... A lift pump in the tank and a pressure pump on the frame rail

SOLVED. New pick up coil inside the distributor did the trick. Just if anyone is having a similar issue , sharing what fixed mine could avoid someone else all the trouble I went through
