Default Going to look at a truck tonite...

... or possibly tomorrow.

I need to know what areas to really inspect. It's a 2003 FX4 Level II. I've seen it on the road several times, stopped and gave it a quick look-over at a gas station one day, other than that I haven't inspected much.

The owner said he's replaced the bearings... both the front wheel/hub bearings & all the bearings in the rearend. That last part scares me a little. I've owned a lot of vehicles... and never replaced the rear bearings. Do you think it's been submerged?

He's replaced the emergency brake cable too. Other than that, he said he hasn't done much.

Are there any trouble areas on these trucks?

Thanks for any help.

So, the truck looked great. A few trouble areas, but nothing that breaks the deal. The pinion seal on the rearend is leaking a little. That shouldn't be a hard fix.

He put aftermarket rims on it, a tad wider than the alcoas from the factory. They look really good.

I am finalizing the deal Saturday... and will post some pics when it goes thru.

Yeah, it's a twin stick... manual. It's a good looking truck, no doubt.

It's not too much of a pain to change that seal, is it? I wouldn't think so.

He said it's only had synthetic fluids in it since he's bought it... and the pads and shoes are new. One of the wheel cylinders is showing signs of leaking, so I'll probably change that while I'm checking things out too.

Thanks. The link didn't work, for some reason... but I believe I found it here. Maybe the hyphen killed it?

www.ranger HYPHEN forums DOT com/f43/how-pinion-seal-87896

Looks easy enough. Fluid spec's? I can do the research, but since I'm already in the discussion I figured some experience might offer a better recommendation than what I'd hafta weed thru on the net.

Thanks again.

EDIT: Yeah, it's something to do with the hyphen. Even the link I share won't come thru the forum properly.

I'm grabbing it Saturday, but here are some pics from when I went to test drive it.

Do the CD players in these trucks support MP3's? Also, why in the world would Ford put a gray bezel around the radio? That looks pretty bad, IMO. I guess it's easily swappable.

First things first tho, pinion seal & wheel cylinder.
