Default Explorer master cylinder

Hey guys did and explorer 8.8 disc brake axle swap into a 2003 ranger. Read that you need an explorer master cylinder so swapped one of those in as well. The plug that goes to the pressure sensor(I'm assuming ) is different. Can I just swap the sensor or do I need to swap the plug end?

The red plug is from the explorer and the black one is the original ranger plug.

I would thread them out and see if it is the same thread for the sensor. Put the ranger sensor in the explorer transplant cylinder if they are the same threads.

Every article I read said you could use the ranger master cylinder and it would work, or at least that's what they did and it worked. I have an explorer 8.8 waiting to go in my 2000 and I do not plan on changing the master cylinder.

Would be interesting to read the article you found that said you must change the master cylinder do you have that link handy?

Oh it was just another forum some time ago so it could have been a case of me mis remembering. I just remember something about the bias would be different for the disc and drum masters. But that could have been someone's speculation

I have NOT done the swap yet, so I am NOT speaking from experience. My holdup is I am still trying to garner all the parts needed without paying an arm and a leg. It can be done if one is patient.

However, I have read everything I could find on the subject both here and the other forum and from what I gather, post 2001 Rangers have the computer controlled braking system so you should not have any issues with the stock Ranger MC.

My plan is to be very careful when I disconnect the brake lines from the distribution block on top of the axle. Have plugs ready to go immediately to stem the loss of fluid so as not to create air bubbles in the ABS module. That air cannot be purged in the conventional manner and I suspect that may be the culprit behind some complaints of a spongy feeling pedal. Again, I am no expert on this, just trying to share my train of thought on this as I prepare to do this in the near future.

If i am off base on the subject, feel free anyone to interject and set the record straight. I have broad shoulders. LOL.

I just switched the sensors. The ranger master did work but we had an abs light come on. It will be a bit before we can test it now though due to the engine swap in progress. The explorer master was cleaner anyway lol
