I went to the mechanic for - among other things - my Check Engine light that had come on, and they found a vacuum leak under the hood and replaced the line. No more hissing sound behind the bezel! The mechanic also said that I need to stop freaking out about sounds on my truck so much, he said pickup trucks are generally noisier than cars and small SUVs, and some creaks & clicks are to be expected on a truck with this many miles. He said the sounds I hear when I change the climate controls are just the "doors opening and closing in there."
So I'm not going to think about it anymore, I guess. ;-)
Thanks again for your help!!

Haha no problem. And you should hear my 93Lightning all performance v8 and crazy exhaust. No sound deadening whatsoever just carpet and some plastic panels. You can literally hear the cab sheet metal rattle at idle 😂. Trucks are super loud.
