Default Passenger side door handle

Sorry if this question has been posted before, but I couldn't find it, so here goes.

I have a 1999 Ranger. The passenger side outside door handle seems to be what I call sprung. When pulled, it's got play in it before it activates the door mechanism. Any suggestions on how to repair this?

Thanks in advance.

I believe you have to drill out the rivets from underneath and replace the spring. Mine does it too but I just live with it

Mine is like that too, I call it a safety feature because everyone thinks it's locked. I'll worry when it breaks.

You can replace the handle as a unit just bolts in.

^^^^ Can be bolted in with 1/4" carriage bolts in lieu of the original rivets. To the OP, you can use 1/4" blind rivets like OEM if you have the puller (it's a large tool) and if you do, tape a towel or a some cardboard over the paint around the work area to protect the paint (the puller will jump when the center shank of the rivet snaps off). Puller can be rented or, and thanks to china, had for a few bucks at harbor freight.
