Re: Putting on a different pair of shoes and banging the drum.
i just replace mine on a ford ranger 1997 xl 2wd and its a nightmare. the previous owner played with it and messed it up, which in turn is my first time doing it, so i took pictures thinking the current set up of brakes is correct and refiited the new ones the same as the old ones, then the next day my father drive the truck and he said he saw smoke coming out of the tires in the back, and we found out that the brakes got locked up, and burn the brakes shoes in the process, good thing the new shoes is a lifetime warranty and immediately replace it,
to get to the point, buy brakes shoes at autozone as they get lifetime warranty on them, change both wheel cylinders even if they are not leaking and change the springs and and self adjuster lever, and clean the brake setup before you start removing them to prevent inhaling brake dust and bleed you brakes good luck
it took me three tries to find out that the old setup is not correct lol, so i suggest go online and start searching images or videos of changing drum brakes
