Help! AFTER the alternator failed...
So- I'm reaching out to the FRF for car trouble, not on my ranger, but this time on my reliable wife's car...2007 Elantra.
So- we have 189k on this thing, and this weekend, back from our honeymoon that morning, rushing to a friends wedding, the alternator pully failed and the engine overheated because the fan belt snapped on it.
I replaced the alternator and belt, but now I'm dripping coolant from somewhere near the reservoir, and I have a black liquid dropping from somewhere else onto the alternator...which is slinging it around a bit as the belt races....thoughts?
As and added fun thing, I immediately stripped the mounting hole in the top of the alternator while adjusting the belt...I'll get to that who knows when. Until then it's a little on the loose side.
Also - what other work should I do after an engine has overheated? I smelled/heard a squeal when starting the car just before this catastrophe. I was in such a rush I took off for the highway anyway. The battery light went on, the start was slow, but I figure it was a poor battery connection which happens a lot on this car. It must have been 30 minutes before I noticed the temp gauge all the way up and pulled over. I hope the belt had just snapped but I donno.
