Default A/C cold for a few min then warm. WTH?! Help!

Hey guys I am at a standstill right now with my A/C. When I first got the truck it would blow cold for about 30 seconds then get warm each time I started the truck. Thought it may just need recharged so me and a buddy recharged it and then it would stay ice cold for about 6-7 min then get warm. I had the system serviced at the shop today with all the old free-on taken out then recharged and it was cold for a few min then got warm. Took it back and they said it looked like my compressor clutch was bad. I installed a new low side switch also. What does this sound like to you guys? Compressor clutch? I can get one at O'Reilly's for $90 or the whole compressor for $190. Thing is I am BROKE. Not working right now so I need to watch my money and they tried to say if I replaced the compressor only and not the evap can etc then it wouldn't be warrantied blah blah so I dunno what to do. Someone please help me!!! Lol. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a blockage. Bust lose the liquid hose between the condenser and the evaporator at the evaporator end, and inside the tube to the evaporator there is an orifice tube with a screen on it. A pair of needle nose pliers and a good tug will get it out of there, and they only cost a couple of bucks. If it's got debris on it, replace it.

I just got mine working today, so I feel your pain, and the whole system is still fresh in my head.

Wouldn't happen to have any pics of these tubes would ya? I am more of a see and learn person haha. If not that's cool I will try to figure it out but if you do that's what I need! Ha. Thanks man. Oh, think I should do this before the compressor? And will that let all my free-on out that I just spent $100 getting recharged? Lol

Ok Matt, now THAT was funny!

I'll can get you a pic of the tube, but you can't see it till you remove it. If you look at your lower tube going to the evaporator, there's a fitting right there, and when you remove that fitting, the orifice tube is in the evaporator line right there. It's up inside the tube about an inch though, so you really can't see it, you just have to reach in there with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out what you grab. O'Really's had the tube for about $3.

Edit: pic of old nasty clogged orifice tube added.

Will all my freeon leak out when I do this or is there a schrader valve on this tube as well? Think I should start by replacing this first? Would this make the compressor kick off after a few minutes then if I turn it off for a few min and kick it back on it will work a little more? Also I can tap the front of the clutch on the compressor and it will kick back in. I just assumed that the clutch in the comp was goin bad. But if this tube can clog and make it act like this than I will start there first since it is a cheap fix

Once you replace the line, take it to a shop that does A/C work and have them evacuate the lines and recahrge the system. This will remove and moisture and that got into the system to prevent further problems.
