I bet someone has already asked this but....
When my truck (08 4x4 sport, 4.0 SOHC, auto) is idling, there is a fairly loud whine coming from further back along, right around the rear wheels. My old 2000 Ranger had the same sound, so I've never thought much about it. Am I right in assuming it's the fuel pump? And is the whining sound an indication that it might be heading south on me?

mine whines too. its a 1999. But nothings wrong.

Like I said, I never thought much about since my old one did the same thing. But, never hurts to check to see if it's a sign of trouble coming.

Check the fuel pressure, if you want to check it out. If you have good pressure then don't worry.
