Default 5.0 Gas mileage

Would a 5.0 be much harder on gas than the 4.0 SOHC?

I think he wants to know by how much, or at least I hope so! I vaguely remember reading on another forum that a 5.0 swapped ranger was getting 15-16 mpg.

I'm just idly considering the swap. The 4.0 SOHC is not easy on gas by any means, and I'm wondering if the bonus of having extra power would come with a huge hit on mileage. Even if they were reasonably close, that would suit me just fine!

Think more about smiles per gallon. Even if there was a 5mpg difference you'd have to drive quite a bit to save a significant amount of money. I believe a 5 mpg difference will save you around $300-400 (with current gas prices ) if you drive 10k miles in a year.

Mine right now gets about 12mpg. 2000 expo 5.0, automatic, 4406 transfer case, 4:10 gears and 33s.... I'm pretty heavy on the gas though, kinda have to be otherwise what's the point of putting a v8 in it?! Hahahah
