2002 Ford Ranger 4.0L XLT 4x4
Hey guys, the other day I noticed puddle forming under my truck after driving for ~30 minutes. It was coming down on the passenger side, near the wheel well / firewall. When I inspected it, it was definitely water not coolant. However, I noticed that my coolant was a bit low and topped it off.
I pulled the wheel and the wheel well off and found that a plastic box, near the AC evaporator (?) and saw that the bottom of it was leaking pretty badly, however it only leaks once the truck has been running for a little bit and the AC / heat has been turned on and pressurized. If the truck is on, but the climate control is not, it will not leak.
I have been reading forums and haven't been able to determine exactly what the black box is, but am starting to think it has something with the heater core. However, everyone with "leaking heater cores" experience wet carpet on the passenger on the inside of the cab, the smell of antifreeze, and fogging windshields, which is definitely not happening to me.
To sum it up, this black plastic box is leaking, does anyone know what it is / what it does, and what could be causing the leak?
Here is a video showing the leak
