My truck is making a rattling noise when the clutch is pushed down, but only after it is put into gear.

When I push down the clutch, the noise isn't there.. but when it is put into gear, with the clutch disengaged, the noise comes and doesn't go away until clutch is engaged.

Thought it was throwout bearing at first, so we dropped the transmission to replace it but when we took a look the throwout didn't seem damaged or like it needed replaced.

Called around was told it was the input bearing, but after seeing some posts and videos that say the input bearing makes noise when the clutch is engaged, I'm lost.

Any thoughts?

Miles on transmission? First Ive heard of this..

I cant really give you any useful advice. What I can say is the m5od is very simple to take apart- especially if you just pull the top cover (where the shifter goes in). It would be worth it to pull it and see if anything jumps out at you.

With some bearing pullers it can easily be completely disassembled though it will need a press when you put it back together.

Sounds like the bearings inside your trans are shot. My Integra did the same thing. You have to pull the main and jack shaft out of the trans to change the input shaft bearing so you might as well replace all the bearings.

If you push the clutch pedal the transmission stops spinning. If the noise returns when you release the pedal its inside the trans. Throwout bearing only makes noise when the pedal is pressed.

Nothing you do after the clutch should affect anything or make any sound. If everything is working properly, when you have the clutch disengaged, there shouldn't be any rotation inside the transmission, especially after you put it in first gear with the clutch pushed down at a standstill. I'm wondering if the engine vibrations are coming back through the shifter maybe?

^^^ the two parts rotating when the clutch is disengaged (AKA down) at a standstill in gear are release bearing and pilot bearing..check the pilot bearing..

well I don't know how to tell you this but he's correct. While it may "spin" in mass with the pressure plate, clutch disk, flywheel and input shaft it is not working as a bearing. That only happens when the input shaft is slower or stationary as when stopped at a light. so the bearing is only working as bearing at those times.
